Mustard Oil has life enhancing naturally present anti-oxidant

Anti-oxidants are crucial for healthier life and to prevent disorders like atherosclerosis, dementia, skin disorders, arthritis and neurological disorders. They also keep a constant watch on growth and development of foetus during pregnancy. Mustard oil contains adequate amount of alpha tocopherol and thus acts as a potent antioxidant for human health.

Vitamin E is one of the most important antioxidant defending the body against various diseases. The different isomeric forms of vitamin E differ in their action. The most bio-active form of vitamin E is alpha tocopherol. Crude mustard oil when compared to other crude oils has been reported to contain a good amount of alpha tocopherol. Vitamin E protects against toxicity by oxygen, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, lead, mercury and nitrosamines. The deficiency results in various metabolic malfunctioning.

The RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) for vitamin E is 10 mgs per day. This requirement is sufficiently met by crude mustard oil. Mustard oil contains the required amount naturally that is ‘enriched’ in other oils synthetically. So obviously mustard oil becomes a better choice as cooking medium. It is better than other oils as natural alpha tocopherols form is most actively absorbed by our body. Other oils that contain added artificial vitamin E are refined. During this refining process, these oils lose the other beneficial components like polyphenols thus making these oils inappropriate for consumption.
