Chaklis are a snack that is easy to make and you will love munching it anytime. Filled with lots of savoury spices, chakri can be made mild or spicy, depending on your preference. They also make for a nice tea time snack.

Ingredients for chakli recipe

  • P Mark Kachi Ghani Mustard oil: 3 tbsp

  • Rice Flour: 1 cup

  • Urad Dal (split black gram) flour: 1/4 cup

  • Besan (gram flour): 2 tsp

  • Roasted Gram Flour: 1 tsp

  • White Sesame Seeds: 1 tbsp

  • Cumin Seeds: 1 tbsp

  • Carom Seeds): 1/2 tbsp

  • Red Chili Powder: 1/2 tbsp

  • Asafoetida: 1/4 tbsp

  • Salt: According to taste

Method for chakli recipe

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, urad dal flour, besan, roasted gram flour, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, ajwain, red chilli powder, asafoetida, and salt.

  2. Heat 1 tbsp of mustard oil until it reaches its smoking point. Allow it to cool slightly and then add it to the flour mixture.

  3. Mix the ingredients well. Gradually add water and knead the mixture into a smooth, firm dough. The consistency should be similar to that of chapati dough.

  4. Heat 2 tbsp of mustard oil for deep frying in a pan on medium heat. While the oil is heating, take a portion of the dough and place it in a chakli press.

  5. Press the chakli press directly over the hot oil, forming circular spirals. Alternatively, you can also press the chakli onto a greased surface and then gently lift and transfer it to the oil.

  6. Fry the chaklis until they turn golden brown, turning them to ensure even cooking. Maintain the oil temperature on medium heat.

  7. Once done, remove the chaklis from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

  8. Allow the chaklis to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
