The Growth of Mustard Oil Market in Bangladesh

Alongside India, another country that traditionally consumes large quantities of Mustard Oil is Bangladesh. According to recent estimates, the Mustard Oil market in Bangladesh is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.8 per cent – a growth rate that will be sustained all the way till 2027 according to forecasts.

Research on Mustard Oil's Health Benefits

Given the importance of Mustard Oil in Bangladesh, it is no surprise, therefore, that the country also conducts research on Mustard Oil to gain a deeper understanding of this wonder oil with all its amazing health benefits. The BRAC University in Bangladesh carried out a study of the antimicrobial and antibacterial properties of commercially available Mustard Oil. The research team studied these properties in the context of certain disease-causing pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Bacillus cereus, Salmonella typhi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

The findings of the study indicate that Mustard Oil is a good source of antibacterial and antimicrobial agents, and it can be exploited as a natural antibiotic for the treatment of various infectious diseases caused by the pathogens mentioned earlier.

Bridging Traditional Remedies and Modern Medicine

The study also observed that gaining a deeper understanding of the disease-fighting capabilities of Mustard Oil could help the scientific community to draw valuable insights into the relationship between traditional remedies and modern medicine.

In India, the ancient healing science of Ayurveda discovered the infection-fighting attributes of cold-pressed Mustard Oil thousands of years ago and used these properties to fight disease, infection and inflammation by preparing Mustard Oil-based herbal formulations – some of which are used even today in the form of home remedies and natural herbal medicines.

And yes, modern medicine is indeed using the healing powers of Mustard Oil in many innovative ways: fighting infections, repairing blood vessels (especially their outer sheath), controlling blood pressure, balancing blood lipids and treating certain types of cancer like colon, colorectal and intestinal cancer.

Like the team from Bangladesh averred – modern medicine and the scientific community must take a closer, deeper look at Mustard Oil.
