At Puri Oil Mills, we’ve been committed to creating an impact beyond business, and one of the causes closest to our hearts is access to nutritious food. As part of our CSR initiative this World Food Day, we’re proud to share our partnership with Salaam Baalak Trust. Through this collaboration, we are helping to ensure that street children in Delhi's Paharganj area receive a nutritious midday meal every day.
Our Commitment to a Better Tomorrow
For the children at Salaam Baalak Trust's, food is more than just sustenance. It’s a cornerstone of their daily lives, fostering not only physical growth but also a sense of community. As part of the initiative, 30 children at Salaam Balak’s centres at Praveen Contact Point in Paharganj and the GRP Contact Point at New Delhi Railway Station receive nutritious meals that support their well-being, enabling them to focus on education and personal development.
The trust operates in some of the most challenging environments, where many children are exposed to the harsh realities of street life. By providing these children with access to regular meals as part of this CSR initiative, we are trying to ensure that they receive the nutrition necessary for both their physical and cognitive development.
Fostering Social Connections and Emotional Growth
The act of sharing a meal goes beyond addressing hunger. Mealtime at Salaam Baalak Trust is a moment for children to gather, share experiences, and develop social skills. Sitting together to eat fosters a sense of belonging and community, teaching them important lessons about sharing, communication, and cooperation. These simple, daily interactions build emotional resilience and contribute to their overall social growth.
Special meals during festivals like Diwali, Eid, and Christmas add a sense of celebration and inclusivity, allowing the children to connect with cultural traditions while enjoying the warmth of a communal meal.
Salaam Baalak Trust: A Lifeline for Street Children
The Salaam Baalak Trust began as a simple daycare centre, offering street children a temporary refuge. Over time, they recognized that children need more than just short-term support—they need safe spaces where they can truly grow. Today, the Trust runs Full Care Residential Centers and Shelter Homes, giving children not just a roof over their heads, but a community where they are loved and protected.
Their work is rooted in the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and we couldn’t agree more. Whether it’s through their Children’s Homes for girls and boys or their open shelters, Salaam Baalak Trust is providing 24/7 care to some of the most vulnerable children in our society. We’re incredibly proud to play a small role in this larger mission.
