Many a time, teatime is a dull time, turning into a predictable ritual… a chore… with the same menu: tea with biscuits or some other standard snack item. Let’s make it a little more interesting.

We are going to make some delicious Spicy Cheese on Toast that complements your cup of tea perfectly – and takes very little time to prepare.

Here are the simple ingredients you will require.

Ingredients:

  1. Bread: 4 slices

  2. Mustard Oil: 1 tablespoon

  3. Butter: 30 grams

  4. Cheese, grated: 100 grams

  5. Onion, chopped: 50 grams

  6. Red Chilli Sauce: 1 tablespoon

  7. Salt: to taste

This recipe uses four slices of bread – for tea for two. Adjust the ingredients if there are more people at your tea table.

Preparation:

This dish hardly requires any preparation at all. Just grate the cheese and finely chop the onions – and you are ready to get started.

Method:

In a mixing bowl add the grated cheese and the mustard oil. Melt the butter by heating it slightly and then pour it into the mixing bowl. Mix well.

Next, add the chopped onion, red chilli sauce and salt – and continue mixing.

This mixture will be used as the topping for your Spicy Cheese on Toast. Divide it into four equal portions and place each portion on a slice of bread.

Take a baking tray and grease it with a little butter. Carefully place the bread slices on the tray.

Preheat your oven at 200o C and bake the bread slices and the topping for around 6 to 7 minutes.

When the slices are done, cut each slice diagonally – this makes it easier to eat. If any of the topping falls off, use a teaspoon to neatly put it back on the toasted bread slices.

Your Spicy Cheese on Toast is now ready to be served. Serve it hot with ketchup, mustard sauce or any chutney of your choice. Enjoy your teatime… and have a great evening!
